Whois Privacy Protection, sometimes also referred to as WHOIS or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the actual contact details of domain name owners on WHOIS check sites. Without such protection, the name, home address and email account of any domain name registrant will be publicly available. Giving false details during the domain registration process or changing the genuine info afterwards will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain name registrant losing their ownership of the domain name. The policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, require that the WHOIS information must be correct and accurate at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by registrars as an answer to the growing concerns about possible identity theft. If the protection service is enabled, the domain registrar’s contact details will appear instead of the client’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the Whois Privacy Protection service, although there are some country-code ones that don’t.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you order a shared web hosting plan from us, you will be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains if their extensions support this option. You can register or transfer a domain and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the registration procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any moment afterwards through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is really easy – once you log in, you will need to visit the Registered Domains section where you will see a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with our company. For each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” sign, which will tell you whether the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently enabled.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain under it, you can enable our Whois Privacy Protection service easily. This requires only a few clicks of the mouse in the Hepsia hosting Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, through which you manage everything connected with your account. This is the place where you can see all your active domains and for each of them you will see an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, using which you can enable, renew or deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-code Top-Level Domain extensions that are Whois Privacy Protection-eligible and you’ll be able to see this in advance, so you will not end up paying for a service that we can’t provide.
